Over the years, IITs have created a world-class educational platform through quality teaching and internationally acclaimed research with excellent infrastructure, though world rankings do not suggest this for various reasons. But it is undoubted fact that in INDIA the best lot of students after 10+2 reach IITs, in search of better educational opportunities. The faculty and alumni of IITs occupy key positions in academia and industry, across the globe and continue to make a considerable impact in various sections of the Society.
There are Twenty-three IITs at present, located in Bhilai, Bhubaneswar, Chennai, Dhanbad, Dharwad, Gandhinagar, Goa, Guwahati, Hyderabad, Indore, Jammu, Jodhpur, Kanpur, Kharagpur, Mandi, Mumbai, New Delhi, Palakkad, Patna, Roorkee, Ropar, Tirupati and Varanasi.
IIT-JEE Advanced, is conducted by one of the seven zonal IITs (IIT Roorkee, IIT Kharagpur, IIT Delhi, IIT Kanpur, IIT Bombay, IIT Madras, and IIT Guwahati) under the guidance of the Joint Admission Board (JAB). It is the sole prerequisite for admission in the Indian Institutes of Technology.
Examination will be conducted in fully computer-based test mode. The exam consists of two papers, Paper 1 and Paper 2, each of three hours’ duration, and will be held in two sessions. Both the papers are compulsory. The performance of a candidate in this examination will form the basis for admission to the Bachelor’s, Integrated Master’s and Dual Degree programs (entry at the 10+2 level) in all the IITs.
The candidates aspiring to take admission to the undergraduate programs at IITs should have appeared in B. E. /B. Tech. Paper of JEE (Main) and be in the merit list (certain number of top candidates from JEE Main exam performance as per the requirement for JEE Advanced are allowed to take JEE Advanced exam).
In addition, the candidates should satisfy at least one of the following two criteria for admission to IITs:
Must have secured at least 75% aggregate marks in the Class XII (or equivalent) Board examination or
Must be within the top 20 percentile of successful candidates in their respective Class XII (or equivalent) board examination.
