4 Steps to Get Admission into IIT:
Step 1 – JEE Mains (Joint Entrance Examination)
To crack IIT, you have first to understand JEE main. The full form of JEE is Joint Entrance Examination. It is a National Entrance Test which is one of the basic ideas and first step to getting admission to IIT. The eligibility criteria for JEE Main is that the aspirant will have completed their 12th Examination and pass them with a minimum of 75% marks in the three major subjects: Physics, Chemistry, and Mathematics. JEE Main is a core Computer-based examination that comprises 90 questions based on the college and degree you prefer. It is mandatory for all aspirants to attempt at least 75 questions. If you want to get admission to the engineering program, your subjects will be PCM. If you wish to enroll in the architecture program, you will have to give three exams, out of which two will be online and one will be offline, to analyze your drawing capabilities.
JEE Main is held two times a year. You can attempt the exam both times, and the most applauding thing is that the score which is best amongst will be taken for the next level of exams. However, you have a limit of 3 years after completing your 12th to give an effort to JEE Main. After that, you cannot appear for the exam.
As soon as you clear your JEE Main exams with the minimum cut-off, you are promoted and are eligible for Step 2. Once you crack the JEE Main with the minimum cut-off criteria, you are suitable for Step 2.
Students who wish to enroll in the architecture program have to undergo one more offline exam–the Architecture Aptitude Test (AAT).
Step 2 – JEE Advanced
This is an advanced version of JEE Exam and is a computer-based examination that is held by the zonal coordinators of IIT. The Joint Admission Board is responsible for regulating the exam. This exam is also a 3-hour online test conducted once a year. The exam is usually conducted to understand and analyze the student’s aptitude, ability, skills, and intelligence.
Step 3 – ALL INDIA RANK
To know your ALL INDIA RANK, you will have to complete the specific criteria. It is precisely to know your capabilities over the other aspirants. To get a rank, the aspirants must pass the exams with a minimum of 10% in Physics, Chemistry, and Mathematics. Moreover, the student should also get at least 35% marks in all three subjects. Step 4- Seats in IIT
Now comes the last step of getting a seat in IIT. The institute follows the standard seat allocation process. In this process, the Joint Seat Allocation Authority (JoSAA) is the deciding committee and applies to every IIT institute. As the aspirant clears JEE main and JEE advanced, you will get your AIR score, which will help allocate your seat at IIT.
Admission Criteria for IIT
It is mandatory for every student to satisfy or fall into at least two criteria mentioned below:
1. The aspirant must score at least 75% aggregate marks in Class XII (or equivalent) Board examination or equivalent percentile.
2. The student must fall in the category-wise top 20 percentile of the students in their 12th class session. These category-wise top-20 percentile cut-off scores are disclosed each year after the JEE Advanced exam and after the results of the Board are declared.
